Engineer IV

About This Role

Manage complex engineering and construction projects within the solid waste industry, leading consulting firms and mentoring junior staff. Oversee permit applications, site monitoring, and regulatory compliance while ensuring efficient capital budget management.

Responsibilities

• Manage professional consulting firms performing work at solid waste facilities, overseeing permit applications, construction plans, and regulatory submittals
• Maintain strong relationships with regulators and represent WM in permit meetings, hearings, and site inspections
• Manage landfill construction projects from planning to final approval, including consultants, contractors, budgets, and bid processes
• Actively manage and track capital budgets for engineering and construction projects, reporting to local and corporate management
• Coordinate landfill capacity tracking, including airspace calculations, capacity projections, and fill sequencing plans
• Continuously evaluate sites for adherence to construction and permit documents, and pursue expansion permits/modifications
• Collaborate with internal professionals to provide innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions for operational, environmental, and compliance issues
• Participate in M&A reviews, assisting with proforma modeling and due diligence
• Assist in training and provide mentorship and supervision to WM technical staff

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar area of study
• 7 years of experience in the environmental and solid waste industry
• Superior problem solving and management skills
