About This Role

This role primarily supports senior engineers in sales, projects, or research and development, offering hands-on learning while contributing to project success, safety, and coordination. The Level 1 Engineer will join a specific team chosen during the interview process based on team needs and candidate aptitudes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to senior engineers through sales, project, or research & development tasks
  • Contribute to project success, safety, and overall project coordination
  • Assist Barnhart Sales Team by developing innovative heavy-lift/heavy-transport solutions and proposal material
  • Perform jobsite walkdowns to obtain information for solution development and/or customer relationship improvement
  • Assist in identifying and managing operational risk in line with industry regulations (e.g., OSHA, ASME)
  • Contribute to estimating costs associated with project execution
  • Determine appropriate equipment selection for a given opportunity considering capacity, availability, constructability, and ancillary costs
  • Support senior engineers in creating lift plans, including crane selection, rigging configurations, and lifting procedures
  • Help with basic load calculations and structural analysis to ensure safe lifting operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET accredited 4-year university with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • 0-2 years of qualifying experience in structural or mechanical equipment design, crane operations, rigging, or heavy lifting projects is beneficial but not required.

Nice to Have

  • Engineer In Training (EIT) credentials
  • Basic experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor)
  • Experience in structural or mechanical equipment design, crane operations, rigging, or heavy lifting projects
