Director of Information Security / Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)

About This Role

The Director of Information Security / CISO leads the development and execution of a comprehensive information security strategy for academic, research, and administrative functions. This role directs the Information Security Office, manages audits and compliance, and serves as the primary authority on institutional cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a campus-wide security program
• Oversee the Information Security Office (ISO) and Information Assurance Specialists
• Implement secure cloud and zero-trust architectures
• Direct GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) efforts
• Manage audits and incident response
• Promote cybersecurity awareness
• Advise senior leadership and external partners
• Manage security vendors and budgets
• Support grant and research cybersecurity needs

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years of cybersecurity leadership experience
• Strong understanding of NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA
• CISSP certification required

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years of cybersecurity leadership experience

• Master’s degree
• Experience with higher education data compliance
• Familiarity with research security standards
