This role is for a Direct Support Professional responsible for providing training, support, and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to foster their optimal independence. The position involves facilitating personal care, daily living skills, social skills, health needs, and community integration.
Responsibilities
- Deliver training, support, and assistance to participants in areas such as personal care, recreation, daily living skills, social skills, and health needs
- Participate in the design, implementation, and monitoring of individualized support plans
- Accurately administer prescribed medications to participants
- Complete required documentation including program data, incident reports, and health records
- Ensure participants' health and safety, including prevention of abuse and emergency procedures like CPR and First Aid
- Provide transportation to recreational and community activities
- Prepare participants' meals following published menus
- Mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills, including recreation, independence, communication, and health
- Advocate for and protect participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, their families, and providers
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills
- Basic computer aptitude
- Ability to speak and write in English
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred
