About This Role

This role provides comprehensive care and support to people with disabilities, focusing on safe transportation to medical appointments and offering assistance and advocacy during visits.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive Arc participants with disabilities to and from medical appointments, ensuring security and comfort.
• Provide hands-on support to Arc participants during medical visits or as needed, assisting with mobility, communication, and medication administration.
• Serve as an advocate for Arc participants, ensuring their preferences, concerns, and medical needs are understood by healthcare professionals.
• Demonstrate empathy, patience, and understanding when addressing the needs and emotions of clients during medical appointments.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with Arc participants, their families, medical staff, and other involved parties.
• Accurately document transportation activities, medical visit notes, and any significant updates regarding the participant’s health and well-being.
• Handle potential emergencies or challenging situations at medical appointments with composure and adherence to established procedures.
• Assist with personal care tasks, if necessary, such as feeding, toileting, and administering medication, following proper protocols.
• Stay updated on best practices in developmental disability care, medical procedures, and any specific needs of the participants.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Empathy and patience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and procedures
• Reliability and punctuality
• Physical ability to assist clients with mobility and personal care

Qualifications

• Previous experience in direct support or caregiving roles for individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
