Development Writer

About This Role

The Development Writer will research and develop persuasive, multi-format fundraising content to expand access to affordable, high-quality health care coverage and services in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Development Team, program staff, and organizational leadership to produce fundraising material
• Write and edit high-quality grant proposals, informational handouts, fundraising pitch materials, acknowledgements, and reports
• Translate dense or policy-heavy information into accessible, engaging written and visual formats
• Work cross-functionally to gather relevant data, framing, impact stories, and other content for funder materials
• Manage and execute multiple, detailed tasks with high fidelity within required timelines
• Maintain working knowledge of Protect Our Care’s history, campaigns, and organizational priorities
• Develop and maintain consistent brand voice and tone across projects and platforms
• Present concept ideas and drafts to internal teams and clients, incorporating feedback effectively
• Monitor external trends in fundraising, storytelling, and audience engagement
• Ensure processes are in place for accurate donor and prospect records

Requirements

• 5+ years professional experience
• 3+ years nonprofit or political advocacy grant writing experience
• Strong written communication and information translation skills
• Excellent proofreading and content organization skills
• Ability to follow processes, manage deadlines, and organize work independently
• Strategic thinking for fundraising material development
• Ability to take direction, understand competing priorities, and propose solutions
• Intellectual curiosity and high emotional intelligence
• Familiarity with 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 designations and compliance in fundraising
• Proficiency in Google Workspace
• Ability to leverage graphic design platforms (Canva or Figma)
• Familiarity with project and grants management software (Asana or similar)
• Experience managing sensitive information and donor interactions with confidentiality

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years professional experience including at least 3 years nonprofit or political advocacy grant writing

Nice to Have

• Experience with graphic design
• Experience with grant budget development
• Familiarity and relationships with funders or donor advisors within Protect Our Care’s fields of work
