About This Role

Lead the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of North Georgia, providing academic, operational, and strategic leadership. This role involves managing faculty, programs, and budgets, and fostering an inclusive departmental culture.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage semester course schedules, faculty teaching assignments, and workload distribution, monitoring enrollment trends.
  • Ensure quality, integrity, and continuous improvement of all academic programs, directing assessments and long-term planning.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate full-time and part-time faculty, guiding them through review processes.
  • Manage departmental budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation, supporting grant proposals and external funding.
  • Lead regular departmental meetings and ensure effective communication with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Participate in leadership meetings with the Dean and represent the department at other on-campus meetings.
  • Foster a collegial, inclusive, student-centered, and academically rigorous departmental culture, supporting student recruitment and retention.
  • Advocate for the department within the university and broader community, collaborating with administrators.
  • Teach within the department as appropriate (typically at a reduced load), supporting undergraduate and graduate instruction.
  • Maintain an active scholarly record consistent with faculty rank and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field
  • Scholarly record fitting appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor
  • Evidence of leadership, teaching excellence, and research productivity

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field
  • Scholarly record fitting appointment as a tenured Associate or Full Professor. Three or more years of administrative experience as a coordinator or director of an academic program preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Three or more years of administrative experience as a coordinator or director of an academic program
  • Experience teaching and mentoring graduate students
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment
