Serve as the chief administrator for the College of Business and Industry, providing vision, academic leadership, and fostering excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and community engagement. This role represents the College and University to all constituents and actively participates in advancement activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership in establishing and achieving the CBI’s vision, mission, goals and expected academic program outcomes
- Responsible for administrative functions including staffing, budgets and facility management
- Inspire confidence and motivate others for engagement and innovation
- Advocate for faculty, staff and students
- Represent the CBI and University positively in interactions to build and sustain effective relationships with constituents
- Provide oversight for the recruitment, hiring, orientation, motivation and retention of faculty and staff
- Ensure effective management of financial resources, including strategic budget planning
- Direct College advancement and fundraising in collaboration with University Development
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies for academic programs
- Develop and maintain a systematic evaluation plan for the CBI’s academic programs
Requirements
- Terminal degree in a discipline within the College or closely related field
- 3-5 years of academic administrator experience (e.g., dean, associate dean, department head or director)
- Accomplishments and credentials sufficient to meet requirements of rank of Professor at JSU (minimum 5 years in higher education)
- Knowledge of University and CBI missions, goals, expectations, policies, and procedures
- Understanding of University and College accreditation requirements
- Familiarity with expectations for teaching, scholarly activity, community engagement, service, and collegiality
- Organized and attentive to detail
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong active listening, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse constituents
- Experience with or potential to fundraise with alumni and external partners
Qualifications
- A terminal degree in a discipline within the College or closely related field
- Three to five years of experience as an academic administrator; minimum of five years of experience in higher education meeting requirements for the rank of Professor
Nice to Have
- Experience administering AACSB, ATMAE or ACEJMC accredited academic program
