This is a trainee/entry level position within the Department of Children's Services, responsible for professional case management for children under State supervision or at risk of State custody. The role involves learning to perform a variety of case management duties to ensure safety and permanency for children and their families.
Responsibilities
- Determine if abuse or neglect has occurred, identify the abuser, assess risk to the child, and determine the need for a safety plan.
- Maintain documentation for case files and other required records, and participate in court proceedings.
- Conduct interviews with alleged child victims, reporters, and family members, gather necessary information, and administer client drug screens.
- Work flexible hours including weekends and holidays, schedule appointments, and transport children safely.
- Communicate effectively and timely with all parties, build trustful relationships with children and families, and explain parental rights.
- Convene and identify members for Child and Family Team Meetings, developing action steps and goals.
- Work within communities by making referrals to service providers and collaborating with law enforcement and multi-disciplinary teams.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Citizen of the United States
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Good moral character (by investigation)
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form
- No felony convictions
- Agree to release all criminal history records to the appointment authority
- Supply a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check
- Submit to and pass a pre-employment screening test for illegal drugs
