This is a trainee/entry-level position within the Department of Children's Services that involves professional case management for children under state supervision, in state custody, or at risk of state custody, and their families. An employee in this class will learn to perform a variety of case management duties.
Responsibilities
- Determine if abuse or neglect has occurred, identify the abuser, assess risk to the child, and make recommendations regarding permanency.
- Monitor adoptive and foster families, recruit foster parents, conduct home visits, and coordinate/observe visitation.
- Maintain documentation for case files and other required documentation, prepare for, participate in, and testify in court proceedings.
- Conduct interviews with alleged child victims, individuals reporting abuse/neglect, child's family, and collateral contacts.
- Gather required information such as school records, demographic information, medical exam/psychological information, and identify supports for children and families.
- Administer client drug screens and conduct required assessments of home.
- Conduct face-to-face visits with children, resource families, providers, kinship homes, and other relevant entities.
- Work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and after hours; schedule appointments, meetings, and visitation.
- Transport children to various appointments safely, assist children in preparing for placement, and sit with children awaiting placement.
- Communicate effectively and timely with clients, engage with children and families to build trustful relationships, and explain parental rights and relevant documents.
- Convene and identify members for Child and Family Team Meetings to work collaboratively and develop action steps and goals.
- Work within communities by making referrals to service providers, collaborating with law enforcement and multi-disciplinary teams, and training foster/adoptive parents and the community.
Requirements
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- Citizen of the United States
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Good moral character
- Complete a criminal history disclosure form
- No conviction for a felony
- Agree to release all criminal history records
- Supply a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check
- Submit to and pass a pre-employment screening test for use of illegal drugs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
