Counterworker

About This Role

Perform a variety of food preparation and serving tasks in a busy and popular cafe, ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to sanitary guidelines. This role may also involve operating a cash register and maintaining cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Replenish beverages, portioned items, hot food, salad and sandwich bars, bulk ingredients, and baked goods
• Serve food items promptly and courteously, following sanitary guidelines and portion control
• Prepare a limited number of food items such as vegetables, fruit salads, pre-made sandwiches, and omelets
• Operate cash register to itemize and total customer purchases
• Scan items, collect payments, and make change for cash transactions
• Count money in cash drawer and perform register start-up and close-out procedures
• Wash dishes manually and using a commercial dishwasher
• Sweep and mop cafe serving area and empty trash as needed
• Clean table-tops in the cafe proper
• Demonstrate commitment to inclusion and cultural awareness through interactions

Requirements

• High School or equivalency
• Six months of relevant experience in food service operations

Qualifications

• High School or equivalency
• Six months of relevant experience in food service operations. Food service experience in an institutional establishment preferred.

• Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to work varied shifts and overtime
