About This Role

Maintain security and supervise the movement and activities of offenders within an adult correctional facility. This role involves intervening in emergencies, conducting searches, and promoting rehabilitation by modifying offender behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility
  • Intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders
  • Supervise movement of offenders inside and outside the correctional facility and conduct periodic counts
  • Search offenders and their living quarters for contraband
  • Escort and transport offenders to predetermined locations
  • Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards
  • Prepare and submit reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, mechanical deficiencies, or security breaches
  • Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders and refer serious problems to proper staff

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Attend and complete Basic Training classes administered by the Department of Corrections

Certifications

Defensive Tactics training (by assignment) (Required) Standard First Aid/CPR training (by assignment) (Required) Firearms certification training (by assignment) (Required)
