About This Role

The Correctional Officer at SECC will maintain security and supervise the movement and activities of offenders within an adult correctional facility. This role involves interventions during emergencies, conducting searches, and preparing reports to ensure facility safety and order.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility
  • Intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders
  • Supervise movement of offenders inside and outside the correctional facility
  • Conduct periodic counts of offenders; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband
  • Escort and transport offenders to predetermined locations
  • Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards
  • Prepare and submit reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, mechanical deficiencies, and security breaches
  • Supervise visits with offenders and search visitors, offenders, buildings, and grounds for contraband

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to attend and complete Basic Training classes administered by the Department of Corrections

Certifications

Firearms certification training (by assignment) (Required) Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training (required during basic training) (Required)
