About This Role

This role involves preparing all food items according to recipes and planned menus, ensuring nutritional value and dietary compliance, and overseeing dining services under the Director's guidance. The cook maintains food storage areas and kitchen cleanliness, and may supervise other dining staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all food items in accordance with planned menus and recipes, ensuring appetizing, nutritional, and dietary-compliant meals
  • Ensure all food is served at the correct temperature and properly presented
  • Consult with the Director of Dining Services on menu changes or substitutions
  • Ensure food storage areas are clean and organized at all times
  • Prepare food in compliance with governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations and established policies
  • Handle food orders upon arrival in a timely manner
  • Dispose of food and waste according to established policies
  • Ensure all leftovers are properly stored, labeled, and dated
  • Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas
  • Prepare upcoming menu items by ensuring they are stocked and pulled as directed by recipes
  • Responsible for safe storage and efficient use of all items within the kitchen’s inventory
  • May supervise servers and dishwashers

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Age over 18 years
  • Background clearance as required by government regulations
  • Current Food handlers permit
  • Minimum of two years’ experience cooking
  • Negative TB test results
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak, write and read English
  • Ability to operate computer, necessary software programs (word, email, excel), scanners, copiers, and fax machines
  • Ability to be professional at all times with other Team Members, residents, family members, and visitors

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years’ experience cooking
