About This Role

The Cook will perform a variety of tasks to provide food services and nutrition support to patients, employees, and visitors at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital, ensuring quality food preparation and adherence to sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, season, and cook food for patients, staff, visitors, and special functions
  • Review menus to determine types and quantities of food needed
  • Prepare quality food in sufficient quantities to meet all service requirements
  • Coordinate timing of food preparation to meet service schedules
  • Adhere to standardization of recipes and portion control to prevent food waste and control cost
  • Provide care and sanitation of equipment in the production area
  • Adhere to sanitation and safety standards (HACCP)
  • Participate in the process of ordering supplies
  • Give directions to personnel who assist in food preparation
  • Orient and mentor new staff members

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Knowledge of basic principles and requirements of food safety and sanitation
  • Minimum one (1) year of food service experience in quantity food preparation/production in a hospital, extended care facility, or other quality food service operation
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and to stand for long periods

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum one (1) year of food service experience in quantity food preparation/production in a hospital, extended care facility, or other quality food service operation.

Nice to Have

  • Completion of formal training program in food preparation
  • Previous experience in food preparation in a hospital
  • Knowledge of basic principles of nutrition as related to modified diets
