About This Role

The Cook will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products for the dining room, bistro, catering events, and resident tray service according to established menu specifications, health, and safety regulations. This role ensures timely and quality meal preparation that adheres to dietary requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve all menu items according to departmental policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to established presentation standards
• Prepare meals on menus and based on nutritional programs and individual plans, ensuring quality in taste, presentation, and dietary requirements
• Perform standard and additional sanitary measures including sweeping, cleaning surfaces, proper covering, and storage of food items
• Ensure timely preparation of all meals, that correct quantities are prepared, and that each resident receives meals corresponding to their dietary requirements
• Utilize kitchen equipment during food preparation and stay productive, preparing for future needs as time allows
• Demonstrate flexibility and volunteer to fill open shifts as required by variations in staffing
• Follow proper reporting procedures for accidents and incidents and adhere to all regulations including bloodborne pathogens, infection control, hazardous materials, and fire safety
• Order and receive food and other departmental supplies in a timely manner to maintain adequate inventory levels
• Assist with the training of new employees and serve food in proper portion size and temperature

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of cooking experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling
• Ability to lift up to 50lb
• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel and e-mail skills

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of cooking experience required. Working experience in the retirement home industry preferred.
