About This Role

The Cook will be responsible for preparing, presenting, storing, and dispatching all food products for the dining room, bistro, marketing and catering events, and resident tray service. This role focuses on adhering to menu specifications, health and safety regulations, and providing quality meals to residents.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
• Assure that the presentation of all menu items adhere to established standards.
• Prepare meals on menus and based on nutritional programs and individual plans.
• Ensure the quality of meals in regards to taste, presentation and dietary requirements established by the Dining Services Director.
• Ensure quality and safety of food by performing standard and any additional sanitary measures, as well as proper covering and storage of food items.
• Ensure timely preparation of all meals.
• Ensure that each resident receives meals corresponding to their dietary requirements.
• Ensure that the correct quantities are prepared to meet daily needs.
• Assist with the training of new employees.
• Serve food in the proper portion size and at the proper temperature.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of cooking experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling
• Ability to lift up to 50lb
• Effective communication skills
• Computer literacy including MS Word, Excel and e-mail

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of cooking experience required.

Nice to Have

• Working experience in the retirement home industry preferred
