About This Role

This role involves overseeing food handling and preparation in a kitchen, ensuring hygienic workspaces and maintaining quality standards for meals and snacks in a senior living community. The Cook also coordinates food production needs and assists with special theme occasions.

Responsibilities

• Check menu item ingredients for quality, wholesomeness, and quantity
• Prepare meals and snacks
• Utilize sound food handling practices for storage and preparation
• Maintain a strict “clean as you go” practice for a clean and professional work environment
• Report all equipment maintenance concerns and follow up on repairs
• Coordinate next day’s food production needs, including pulling and thawing frozen items
• Work with the management team to contribute ideas for special theme/holiday occasions
• Provide top quality food presentation, as directed by the Executive Chef
• Assist in the completion of temperature and meal record logs and participate in taste testing
• Consult regularly with the Executive Chef if items are not up to standard

Requirements

• Experience as a line cook
• Ability to work as a cohesive team member
• Ability to read, write, and speak basic English and understand questions from residents and family members
• Ability to give and receive directions on work related tasks
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions and apply practical problem solving skills
• Ability to perform well under pressure and maintain a positive attitude
• Professional in appearance and conduct
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to be patient and polite

Qualifications

• Previous cooking experience, ideally as a line cook, in an assisted living or large facility, with healthcare experience preferred.
