About This Role

This executive-level role manages and maintains the integrity of the credit union's general ledger, overseeing all accounting operations including accounts payable, reconciliations, fixed assets, and daily cash management. The position ensures compliance with GAAP, regulatory guidance, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain integrity of the credit union's general ledger
• Oversee accounting operations including accounts payable, reconciliations, fixed assets, and daily cash management
• Ensure transactions are accurately posted to the general ledger in accordance with policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements
• Oversee, review, and approve general ledger reconciliations, financial account analyses, and journal entries
• Manage monthly and annual close processes, including preparation and recording of accruals
• Oversee branch and cost accounting practices
• Prepare daily cash position reports for the CFO
• Lead all financial forecasting and reporting activities
• Conduct periodic budget variance analyses to identify risks and opportunities
• Oversee and direct accounts payable and vendor management functions

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Banking
• 3-5 years of accounting experience
• 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation abilities
• High level of professionalism and relationship-building skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
• Advanced knowledge of clerical procedures, office equipment, and recordkeeping systems
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Willingness to work beyond standard hours as business needs require
• Banking/credit union accounting experience, ideally based in Montana or nearby
• Financial institution accounting experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Banking
• 3-5 years of accounting experience (financial industry preferred) and 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
