About This Role

This Controller role is crucial for managing the financial health of a $100M retail organization, focusing on financial integrity, reporting, and strategic insights.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the company’s financial integrity and reporting
  • Bring structure, consistency, and strong internal controls to the business
  • Translate financial data into meaningful insights for executive decision-making
  • Develop and mentor a talented accounting team while driving continuous improvement
  • Partner directly with ownership and senior leaders
  • Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and audits
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards
  • Support informed decision-making at the executive level

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience overseeing full-cycle accounting operations and financial close
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with financial systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role

Nice to Have

  • Retail or multi-location business experience
  • Inventory accounting and sales tax compliance
  • 401(k) administration and payroll systems (ADP preferred)
  • Experience working with financial institutions, lenders, and credit card processors
  • Leading external audits and working directly with auditors
