Perform high-quality diagnostic Computed Tomography (CT) procedures while prioritizing radiation protection for patients. This role involves administering contrast media, maintaining aseptic techniques, and responding to patients' changing physical conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality Diagnostic CT procedures applying principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient
- Identify and administer correct contrast media per departmental protocol
- Use and maintain aseptic technique, accurately draw up sterile contrast media and other solutions
- Maintain knowledge of and observe universal precautions and all other precautions resolved by the University of Michigan Health System
- Respond to patients' changing physical conditions, such as changes in airway/breathing, heart rate, acute change in level of consciousness, seizure
- Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical information, instruct them, relieve anxiety, and gain agreement during procedures
- Legibly complete protocol sheets and document own actions and patient responses, including notes to Radiologist
- Move patients safely from transportation devices to and from the CT table and move heavy equipment such as a portable CT scanner
- Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record
Requirements
- Maintain current ARRT registration
- Compliance with State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs CT installations ionizing radiation Rules and the American College of Radiology CT Accreditation Program requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients
- Guest Relations skills and excellent customer service skills
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Ability to legibly complete protocol sheets and document actions/responses
- Ability to function effectively under dynamic and stressful conditions
- Adaptability to changing environments (flexible schedules, emergency conditions, protocol development, technology advancements)
- Graduation from a school of radiology technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Registration by the ARRT (R)

- Demonstrated understanding with all age-appropriate guidelines for communication, positioning, radiation dose and radiation protection
- Ability to move patients safely and move heavy equipment such as a portable CT scanner
- Ability to receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders
- Dexterity using fine motor skills and strong attention to detail
- CPR certification
- Certification and Registration by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) upon hire
- ARRT (CT) Advance Modality Certification must be completed within 2 years from hire/transfer date. First exam attempt must be within 12 months from hire/transfer date.
- Reasonable experience in diagnostic radiography or computerized tomography
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Qualifications
- Graduation from a school of radiology technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Reasonable experience in diagnostic radiography or computerized tomography
Nice to Have
- CT certification and previous CT experience
- PACS Experience
- Proficient computer skills
- EPIC experience
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ingenuity, creativity and professionalism
- Demonstrated understanding with all age-appropriate guidelines for communication, positioning, radiation dose and radiation protection
