This entry-level Code Enforcement Officer position involves learning and developing code enforcement knowledge and abilities to ensure compliance with State and local codes and regulations in support of a jurisdiction’s local code enforcement program.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of office and field tasks to ensure compliance with State and local codes and regulations
- Learn, reference and enforce applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to property maintenance, zoning, nuisances, housing conditions, and other public concerns
- Serve as a resource and provide information on regulations to interested parties
- Conduct inspections of a routine nature, learning specific methods and techniques of inspection and code compliance work
- Work respectfully and collaboratively with the public, jurisdictional staff, and CSG employees
- Maintain accurate and timely file and record keeping for assigned code enforcement matters
- Become proficient in the use of existing databases and resources utilized
- Maintain and provide safekeeping for all assigned company and jurisdictional property
- Adhere to all company and jurisdictional standard operating procedures and directives
- Drive to assigned locations and other assigned sites
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to pass and obtain a PC 832 Certification from an accredited college or law enforcement agency within six (6) months of placement
- Ability to acquire a Basic Code Enforcement Officer Certification (Module 1) from CACEO or ICC within one (1) year
- Ability to adequately carry out the job requirements as a Code Enforcement Officer I
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Entry level position, incumbents may have only limited related work experience. Preferably one year experience as a Code Enforcement Officer I or equivalent.
Nice to Have
- Background and competency of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to make creative and solutions-oriented decisions
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communications skills
- Experience as a Code Enforcement Officer I or equivalent for a minimum of one (1) year
- Experience in working with the public, planning, law enforcement, building or other transferable skillsets
