About This Role

Serve as a Varsity Boys Badminton Coach at James Lick High School, overseeing the program, demonstrating knowledge of the sport, and fostering commitment, discipline, and teamwork among students. This role involves organizing practices, maintaining equipment, and adhering to district and athletic codes of conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rules, fundamental skills, and advanced techniques for badminton
  • Organize practices and design appropriate conditioning programs for the specific sport
  • Manage and organize the program according to district guidelines and policies
  • Communicate effectively with parent groups, administrators, staff, and students
  • Instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork among student-athletes with varying abilities and backgrounds
  • Assist students in balancing academic workload with athletic commitment
  • Manage fiscal and cash handling procedures related to fundraising and purchasing for the sport
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and uniforms to ensure student safety and minimize loss
  • Follow CIF/CCS Coaches Code of Conduct and BVAL policies and guidelines

Requirements

  • Playing experience in badminton at high school, collegiate, amateur, or professional level
  • High school coaching experience at Junior Varsity level or youth leagues/middle school in badminton, or equivalent experience
  • Current State of California coaching certifications
  • Current East Side Union High School District certifications (including annual mandated reporter training)
  • Pass District Fingerprint clearance
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Valid First Aid certification
  • ASEP certification
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Certification
  • Heat Illness Prevention Certificate
  • Mandated Reporter training
  • Sexual Harassment training
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention
  • Integrated Pest Management
  • Concussion certification
  • Professional references

Qualifications

  • Playing experience at the high school, collegiate, amateur or professional level, or high school coaching experience at the Junior Varsity or youth/middle school level in the same sport.
