This Clinical Research Coordinator role assists in managing multiple tissue banking protocols within the MGH Cancer Center. It involves patient consent, sample collection, data analysis, and supporting translational biomedical research, providing significant clinical medicine experience for students aiming for medical or graduate school.
Responsibilities
- Consent patients to standard tissue acquisition protocols and coordinate sample collection and analysis
- Review patient scans, pathology reports, and treatment histories to identify candidates for study enrollment
- Process patient specimens (blood, saliva, biopsy tissue, etc.) for translational projects
- Maintain Excel and RedCap databases of patients, collected samples, and project-specific records
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of assigned protocols and create tools (flow charts, intake sheets) for compliance and data acquisition
- Prepare and submit protocol amendments and continuing reviews to the IRB for all assigned protocols
- Attend research-focused team meetings with opportunities for internal and external presentations
- Assist on clinical research studies, including recruiting, evaluating, and consenting patients
- Collect and organize patient data, schedule study visits, perform clinical tests (phlebotomy, EKGs)
- Maintain and update data generated by the study
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Analytical skills and problem-solving ability
- Working knowledge of computer applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Careful attention to detail and good organizational skills
- Ability to follow directions
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Working knowledge of clinical research protocols
- Ability to demonstrate respect and professionalism for subjects' rights
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required (or equivalency verification within 6-12 months)
- 0-1 year of relevant research project work preferred; experience in wet/clinical laboratory or patient-facing role preferred.

- Experience working in a “wet” or clinical laboratory
- Experience in a patient-facing role
- Proficiency in Excel and Epic
