Child Life Specialist

About This Role

This role involves participating in therapeutic activities and programs to address patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, helping them adjust to healthcare experiences. The specialist will provide support to patients and families from birth to young adulthood as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Participate in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs
• Facilitate adjustment to health care experiences for patients
• Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team
• Provide support to patients and families from birth to young adults
• Provide coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations
• Maintain resources, including ordering and stocking unit areas
• Delegate work assignments to volunteers
• Participate in clinical training of student interns

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life
• 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist
• General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced‑based knowledge
• Well-developed writing skills
• Excellent communication skills including conflict resolution
• Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
