The Chief Supply Chain Officer leads the end-to-end supply chain management for University of Michigan Health, overseeing sourcing, operations, technology, and performance for academic and regional health systems. This executive role ensures effective management of resources, drives strategic direction, and optimizes cost-effective operations, coordinating an annual supply spend of approximately $1.8 billion.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and drive strategic direction for UM Health's end-to-end supply chain vision, goals, and objectives across owned and affiliated clinical sites.
- Analyze, assess, and approve human resources, capital planning, acquisitions, space, and technology to maintain operations and create a safe environment.
- Ensure development of financial plans for departments according to institutional directives, tracking results and implementing necessary actions.
- Provide oversight, management, and guidance for the entire supply chain services department, coordinating approximately $1.8 billion in annual supply spend.
- Maintain a cost-effective staffing structure focusing on lean operations and organizational integration for expense reduction.
- Collaborate with the University of Michigan campus procurement on integrated initiatives and with other departments on environmental sustainability projects.
- Coach and mentor direct reports and other emerging leaders for succession and personal career development.
- Ensure respective departments follow regulatory and legal requirements, including Joint Commission readiness, and compliance with required learning modules.
- Serve as executive point of contact for strategic vendors, industry contacts, group purchasing organizations, distributors, and manufacturers.
- Participate in institutional capital, operations, and programmatic committees to support UM Health's goals and initiatives.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Public Health, or a related area, or equivalent education and experience.
- 10+ years progressively responsible business and administrative experience in healthcare administration, including healthcare operations in a large academic medical center setting.
- Experience and knowledge of financial management principles in budget preparation, ongoing expense/revenue management, and capital project management.
- Progressively responsible experience in supply chain strategy, purchasing, and materials management in an academic medical center with strong healthcare supply chain background (sourcing and logistics).
- Proven track record of improvement and execution of institutional goals with demonstrated knowledge of operations management principles, practices, and methods.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, and executing operational work plans, process improvement, and new program development.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of process improvement, change management, and leadership techniques.
- Demonstrated commitment to enhancing workplace culture and creating an ideal work environment for staff.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Public Health, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible business and administrative experience in healthcare administration, including healthcare operations in a large academic medical center setting.
