The Chief Supply Chain Officer is an executive-level position responsible for end-to-end supply chain management for UM Health, including academic medical centers and regional health systems. This role provides leadership oversight for sourcing, operations, technology, and performance, managing a team of 460 FTEs.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and drive strategic direction for UM Health's end-to-end supply chain vision, goals, and objectives across owned and affiliated clinical sites
- Responsible for the analysis, assessment, and approval of human resources, capital planning and acquisition, space, technology, and other resources to maintain operations
- Ensure the development of financial plans of departments according to institutional directives, tracking results, reviewing monthly results, and partnering to develop and implement required actions
- Provide oversight, management, and guidance in support of the entire supply chain services department, coordinating annual supply spend for UM Health at approximately $1.8 billion
- Serve to maintain a cost-effective staffing structure that focuses on lean operations and organizational integration
- Collaborate with the University of Michigan campus procurement on integrated initiatives
- Partner with sustainability, facilities, department leaders, and UM Campus colleagues to implement environmental sustainability projects
- Demonstrate commitment to coach and mentor direct reports and other emerging leaders for succession in the organization and personal career development
- Ensure that respective departments follow regulatory and legal requirements, including continual readiness for the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies
- Serve as executive point of contact for strategic vendors and industry contacts, including group purchasing organizations, distributors, and manufacturers
Requirements
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Public Health, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years of progressively responsible business and administrative experience in healthcare administration, including healthcare operations in a large academic medical center setting
- Experience and knowledge of financial management principles in the preparation of budgets (capital and operating), ongoing management of expenses and revenues and capital project management
- Progressively responsible experience in supply chain strategy, purchasing, and materials management in an academic medical center (strong background in healthcare supply chain is essential, ideally with both sourcing and logistics experience)
- Proven track record of improvement and execution of institutional goals with demonstrated knowledge of operations management principles, practices, and methods
- Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, and executing operational work plans, process improvement, and new program development
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of process improvement and change management, and leadership techniques
Qualifications
