About This Role

This role involves providing instruction in Chemistry at Clovis Community College, teaching both developmental and transfer-level courses, and playing a lead role in program coordination. The instructor will contribute to curriculum development, student advising, and participate in college committees and professional development with a strong commitment to equity-minded practices and student success.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer level chemistry courses as assigned
  • Teach the principles and applications of chemical instrumentation
  • Assume the lead role in introductory, general, or organic chemistry programs as needed
  • Assist in the coordination of laboratory facilities
  • Develop and/or revise curriculum and programs, including program review and developing/assessing student learning outcomes
  • Participate in the accreditation process
  • Develop/utilize technologies for classroom presentations
  • Advise students
  • Participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed

Requirements

  • Master's in chemistry OR Bachelor's in chemistry or biochemistry and master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR a valid California Community College Credential OR equivalent education and/or experience
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Qualifications

  • Master's in chemistry

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
  • Related work and professional experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students
  • Broad-based academic background in chemistry
  • Knowledge of current laboratory safety procedures
  • Experience serving on campus committees
  • Commitment to professional growth including demonstrated willingness to improve teaching methodology
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals
