The Charge Nurse coordinates total nursing care for patients across their lifespan, manages operational issues during their shift, and provides direct clinical care when needed. This role acts as a resource for staff members, offering guidance and assistance.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of quality nursing care for patients from birth through the lifecycle
- Manage operational issues during the shift
- Provide clinical care as needed based on census demands
- Communicate patient care, departmental issues, and staff concerns to appropriate leaders
- Serve as a resource for guidance and assistance to staff
Requirements
- Graduate of a nursing program
- 1 year of nursing experience in a hospital setting
- Current Georgia RN License or NLC/eNLC Multistate License
- BLS certification
Qualifications
- Graduate of a nursing program. Bachelors degree preferred.
- 1 year of nursing experience in a hospital setting required, with 2 or more years preferred.

- Bachelors degree

Certifications
BLS certification

Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable

ACLS Certification (Cardiac Tele, Critical Care, Surgical Services including Labor and Delivery)

PALS Certification (Emergency Department)
(Required)
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration (Infusion/Oncology)
(Required)
NRP by the end of orientation period (Womens Services: Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, NICU, NAT, Nursery)
(Required)
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date (Labor and Delivery)
(Required)
PEARS Certification (at Piedmont Athens Hospital)
(Required)
PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Surgical Services)
(Required)
ACLS and PALS Certification (Emergency Department)
(Required)
ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Surgical Services)
(Required)
PALS certification within 30 days for experienced Emergency Department nurses
(Required)
