About This Role

This role involves monitoring and reviewing cardiac rhythms, performing perioperative and testing management of Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) in both outpatient and inpatient settings, and collaborating with medical professionals to ensure optimal device function and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Identify pacemaker capture, sensing and basic heart rhythms.
  • Analyze device data to identify any abnormalities or events and collaborate with physicians to develop a plan of care.
  • Evaluate and review remote downloads of cardiac devices, interpreting measurements, complex arrhythmias, and analyzing clinical scenarios.
  • Create summary reports of preliminary findings, including pacing thresholds, device therapies, and arrhythmia burden.
  • Review operative cases to determine magnet appropriateness and consult with anesthesiologists for safe programming.
  • Perform post-procedure safety checks and device reprogramming based on provider orders.
  • Perform safety checks and device reprogramming for ICD patients undergoing MRI testing.
  • Perform device interrogations, reprogramming, and functional assessments during patient clinic visits or remotely.
  • Support after-hours perioperative device needs with rotational on-call duties.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records concerning device implants, follow-ups, and interventions.
  • Provide information and education to patients and families about device purpose, function, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience as a Pacemaker Device Technician or in a similar role within a cardiology setting
  • Graduation from an accredited Cardiac Implanted External Device program or experience with management of home monitoring for ICDs/ Pacemakers or certification in cardiac device management
  • High school diploma or GED

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Relevant experience as a Pacemaker Device Technician or in a similar role within a cardiology setting, or graduation from an accredited Cardiac Implanted External Device program, or experience with management of home monitoring for ICDs/Pacemakers, or certification in cardiac device management.

Nice to Have

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with CIEDs (Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic devices)
  • Certification as a Cardiac Device Specialist by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)
  • Formal training with Cardiac Devices
  • Experience with PACEART, Carelink, Latitude, Merlin, St. Jude’s, and Biotronik Home Monitoring
