Cardiac Cath Lab Technician

About This Role

The Cardiac Catheterization Technician performs technical and supportive tasks to assist physicians in complex and invasive cardiac catheterization procedures, working under direct supervision. This role is crucial for patient care during these medical interventions.

Responsibilities

• Comply with ATC policies/procedures and client facility policies/procedures
• Provide patient care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness
• Maintain confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with HIPAA
• Report patient condition to appropriate personnel during shift
• Maintain competency by participating in continuing education programs and meeting state specific requirements
• Comply with accepted ethical conduct and professional standards of conduct
• Ensure an adequate stock of supplies at the work site and proper functioning of equipment
• Set up room prior to each procedure and prepare sterile tray and appropriate medications
• Balance and calibrate equipment including x-ray cameras, pressure recorders, and oxygen consumption apparatus
• Prepare patient for catheterization procedure by attaching 12-lead electrocardiogram electrodes and performing prep and drape
• Collect and analyze samples of blood and timed expired air; calculate certain hemodynamic data
• Assist the physician in placement of cardiac catheter and monitor patient reaction to procedures, including EKG and pressure readings
• Administer non-narcotic medications if allowed by facility protocol and applicable state regulations
• Maintain record of protocol and operate defibrillator
• Provide assistance as needed during patient emergencies

Requirements

• One year of experience as a cardiac catheterization technician in a cardiac catheterization laboratory
• Current CPR certification
• Completion of a cardiac catheterization technician program or equivalent experience/education

Qualifications

• Completion of a cardiac catheterization technician program of study combining academic work and clinical training or equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
• At least one year of experience as a cardiac catheterization technician in a cardiac catheterization laboratory.
