Biological Field Station Assistant

About This Role

This role assists in the preparation and operation of seasonal programming at Stone Laboratory, located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, assisting with field research, leading educational activities, and supporting administrative staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of seasonal programming at Stone Laboratory
• Assist in operation of Stone Laboratory Fieldtrip program, Science days at the South Bass Island Lighthouse and other outreach events
• Assist in preparation and maintenance of facilities for utilization by visitors, faculty, researchers and students
• Provide assistance to administrative and laboratory staff as needed
• Conduct inventory of supplies and equipment
• Maintain and repair scientific equipment
• Occasionally assist with field research
• Lead scientific classroom activities for grades 5-12 school groups
• Lead tours, science cruises and activities for visiting groups
• Assist in construction and storage of educational displays
• Conduct orientation sessions for visiting groups
• Assist in seasonal set-up and close-down procedures for the laboratory

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability in the conduct of routine field work
• Ability to work with a diverse population and as a team
• Successful completion of a background check
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and some holidays

Qualifications

• High School diploma
• 0 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in life science education, fisheries & wildlife, ecology, biology or related field
• Ability to lift 30 lbs.
