About This Role

The Bioinformatician-Computational Biologist will be responsible for analyzing human microbiome amplicon sequences, preparing scientific figures and text, and implementing bioinformatic workflows. This role involves advising on analysis strategies and staying current with relevant literature to advance research for Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and compare amplicon sequences that define the human microbiome
  • Prepare figures and text for publication and presentations
  • Adapt and implement bioinformatic workflows for sequence analysis
  • Read relevant literature, including conceptual state-of-the-art methods
  • Work with team members to advise on analysis strategies

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in mathematics/statistics, computational biology or equivalent
  • Familiarity with DNA sequence analysis, especially rRNA gene sequences
  • Familiarity with microbial diversity metrics
  • Proficiency in R for data analysis and visualization
  • A minimum of 4 years of research experience performing bioinformatics research
  • Adept at command line interfaces

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in mathematics/statistics, computational biology or equivalent
  • A minimum of 4 years of research experience performing bioinformatics research

Nice to Have

  • Co-authorship on publications related to the gut microbiome
  • Expertise with mothur and R
