This role primarily supports the Project Manager by handling high-level administration and financial duties. The Assistant Project Manager also oversees core project processes such as requests for information, submittals, and change order management to enable the Project Manager to focus on high-value activities.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety on all projects, assist the Project Manager and Superintendent to identify and mitigate safety risks
- Oversee core project functions such as document control, requests for information, submittals, issue resolution, and corrections
- Assist the Project Team to complete projects according to agreed-upon quality standards
- Assist the Project Manager in creating and updating the project schedule
- Participate in the review of project estimates to understand profit goals, identify missed scopes or other issues, and resolve identified issues
- Assist the Project Manager to negotiate with trade partners and vendors and execute subcontract agreements and purchase orders
- Manage the change order process by reviewing actual and proposed changes to the work and compiling final proposals
- Assist the Project Manager in setting up project budgets based on final project estimates
- Assist the Project Manager to track and forecast the "burn rate" of project general conditions and general requirements
- Assist the Project Manager in evaluating the project financial health, performing monthly financial analysis, and reporting on anticipated project profitability
Requirements
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as an Assistant Project Manager or three (3) years as a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer
- Understanding of generally accepted construction processes (RFIs, submittals, change order management, project execution)
- General understanding of contracts with clients, subcontracts with trade partners and vendors
- Moderate experience in Microsoft Excel
- Moderate experience in Microsoft Project, P6, or other scheduling software
- Experience successfully working on projects with multiple team members
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, Construction Engineering and Technology, Engineering, or another similar field
- Minimum one (1) year of experience as an Assistant Project Manager, or three (3) years as a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer with a general contractor.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Office, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Experience with Procore
- OSHA 30-hour certification
