Assistant Professor of Microbiology

About This Role

Hofstra University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Microbiology to teach lecture and lab courses, establish an externally-funded research program, and mentor undergraduate and Master's students in microbiology.

Responsibilities

• Teach lecture and lab courses in microbiology, introductory molecular/cell biology and upper-level courses that complement current course offerings
• Establish and maintain an externally-funded research program that complements the needs of our department
• Mentor undergraduate and Master’s research students

Requirements

• Ph.D. in microbiology, biology or closely related discipline
• Postdoctoral research experience in microbiology
• Well-developed research plan
• Experience teaching undergraduate biology courses as instructor of record
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in microbiology, biology or closely related discipline

Nice to Have

• Teaching experience in the field of microbiology
• Experience teaching lecture and laboratory introductory biology courses as instructor of record
• Experience applying active-learning or student-centered pedagogy
• Demonstrated expertise in combining classical bacteriology and bioinformatics in microbiological research
• Experience collaborating in a coordinated teaching environment for multi-section courses
