Assistant Professor of Art

About This Role

This tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art position will support Middle Georgia State University's growing art program by teaching 2D and 3D art courses. The role involves a 4/4 course load, scholarship, service, and student advisement.

Responsibilities

• Teach a 4/4 course load, including 2D and 3D art courses
• Engage in scholarship activities
• Provide service to the department and university
• Advise students
• Develop and deliver courses at foundational and advanced undergraduate levels in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, 2D or 3D design
• Travel between campuses (Cochran, Dublin, Macon, and Warner Robins) as required

Requirements

• M.F.A. in studio art or related field
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver courses at the foundational and advanced undergraduate level in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, 2D or 3D design
• Interest in and commitment to contributing to the growth and evolution of a dynamic art program
• Student-centered approach to teaching with a strong commitment to engagement
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills
• Active involvement in creative practices and demonstrable experience with juried exhibitions or equivalent scholarship

Qualifications

• M.F.A. in studio art or related field

Nice to Have

• Experience with online and/or hybrid delivery of coursework
• Experience with curriculum development
• Experience with printmaking, murals, or other forms of commercial art
• Knowledge of traditional studio practices
• Expertise in 2D and 3D design
• Ability to contribute to multiple programs such as current painting concentration and potential 3D art concentration, art therapy concentration and/or art history minor
