Assistant Nurse Manager (Med-Surg)

About This Role

Supervise nursing personnel and coordinate operational activities for a specific nursing unit over a 12-hour shift. This role involves directing clinical nursing care, ensuring quality patient outcomes, and providing administrative and clinical support for the unit.

Responsibilities

• Supervise personnel and coordinate operational activities of a specific nursing unit for a 12-hour work shift
• Direct clinical nursing care for patients on the assigned nursing unit
• Demonstrate effective leadership skills and participate with the nursing care team in the delivery of quality nursing care
• Respond to nursing personnel requests for actual patient care assistance and intervene as expert clinician
• Conduct board rounds on each patient to ensure patient and family needs are met
• Manage performance of unit personnel
• Provide administrative and clinical support under the direction of the Department Director and Hospital Supervisor
• Maintain clinical competencies in unit, providing direct patient care when necessary

Requirements

• Current California Registered Nurse License
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA)
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through AHA
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
• Minimum of two years relevant clinical experience in acute care facility
• Ability to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas
• Ability to employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures
• Participation in the Respiratory Protection Program (wearing a respirator)
• Basic knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to type and use a computer keyboard
• Ability to open and respond to emails

Qualifications

• Education required for Registered Nurse license; Bachelor's degree in nursing or allied health field preferred (required within 5 years)
• Minimum of two years relevant clinical experience in acute care facility; one year in a charge/relief charge position preferred
