This role involves leading the Treasury Governance function, focusing on the integrity of Tax (1099) and Unclaimed Property programs within the organization. The Assistant Director II will shape strategy, strengthen controls, and ensure excellence in high-visibility functions by overseeing regulatory compliance and managing complex operational processes.
Responsibilities
- Oversee governance programs for Tax Information Reporting and Unclaimed Property, ensuring adherence to all IRS, state, and jurisdictional requirements
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting tax reporting and unclaimed property; assess business impact and lead implementation of required process and/or system updates
- Develop, maintain, and enforce policies and business procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and strong internal controls
- Lead teams responsible for accurate execution of 1099 reporting, withholding, and TIN validation
- Oversee the Unclaimed Property life cycle, including escheatment processing, due diligence, reporting, audits, and state outreach
- Direct the strategic offshore partnership supporting Tax and Unclaimed Property operations
- Partner with Treasury Leadership to define long-term governance strategy for Tax Reporting and Unclaimed Property
- Prioritize work of team to help execute the strategy of units, Treasury, and Liberty Mutual
- Coach, develop, and manage staff, advancing team capabilities in compliance, risk management, and operational excellence
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting
- 15 years of experience in financial role, preferably with Treasury experience
- People leadership experience
- Ability to execute thoroughly in a fast-paced work environment, adapting quickly to changing conditions to achieve results
- Facilitates cross-functional collaboration and communicates effectively to a wide variety of audiences at all levels of the organization
- Comfortable leading meetings and making presentations to increasingly large audiences
- Advanced understanding of Finance Tools and Analytical Methods
- Ability to collaborate with peers across the organization and external parties to gain support for ideas and execute on projects that deliver value to customers
- Extensive knowledge of interrelationships between large scale enterprise-wide systems and the information flows through the organization
- Extensive knowledge of accounting/treasury systems and accounting concepts
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting
- 15 years of experience in financial role, preferably with Treasury experience
Nice to Have
- 1099 tax reporting and Unclaimed Property experience
