About This Role

This role is responsible for coordinating and executing division-wide communications and marketing initiatives for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Georgia. The Assistant Director will focus on copywriting, editorial oversight, message development, and leading complex communications projects to enhance the visibility and reputation of Student Affairs programs.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and proofread high-visibility written content including announcements, correspondence, newsletters, web content, and presentations
  • Translate complex information, policies, and initiatives into clear, accessible messaging for various audiences
  • Serve as an editorial reviewer for OVPSA communications, ensuring quality control and consistency
  • Coordinate the Division’s email marketing strategy and support departmental email marketing initiatives
  • Analyze the ROI of marketing strategies through data/trends and implement improvements to increase engagement
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Student Affairs departments seeking communications and marketing support
  • Manage and coordinate multiple concurrent projects across units, ensuring high-quality deliverables and strategic alignment
  • Support the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs in implementing divisional communications priorities
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and approaches for communications delivery
  • Manage workflow, project tracking, and prioritization for communications initiatives
  • Directly supervise and mentor a team of student employees supporting divisional communications, with a focus on social media

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent
  • 5 years of professional experience
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing, communications, and public relations principles
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting, editing, and message framing
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of judgment, discretion, and professionalism
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across various functional areas
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent
  • 5 years of professional experience in a related field

Nice to Have

  • Five (5) or more years of related professional experience
  • Experience working in higher education or a complex organizational environment
  • Experience supporting executive or senior leadership communications
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Familiarity with digital communications platforms, content management systems, and project management tools
