Assistant Bakery Department Head

About This Role

The Assistant Bakery Department Head will support the Department Head in daily operations, ensuring quality products and excellent customer service. This role involves supervising staff, managing inventory, and maintaining department standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure the quality of products
• Greet customers with good customer service and friendly enthusiasm
• Manage department performance and attain departmental goals
• Manage and supervise department daily operation and staff performance
• Provide coaching, on-the-job training, shadowing, and guidance to department staff
• Supervise Bakery Service Assistants, ensure fair distribution of work and daily checklists are strictly executed
• Promote teamwork and create an harmonious working environment
• Manage and control the product inventory in freezer and cooler
• Set up and manage the product display for special events/holidays
• Familiarize with product ordering, process, and execution
• Follow company's pricing principles and partner with the Merchandising Department
• Conduct quality and inventory control
• Responsible for cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tools maintenance, and workplace safety
• Oversee product quality, food safety, freshness, and ensure FIFO is strictly practiced
• Maintain and update UPC pricing, verify and ensure product labeling is properly done
• Ensure bread, cake, and other pastry products are properly packaged and displayed
• Lead by example by performing all hands-on duties required in the Bakery Department

Requirements

• Good communication skills in English
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Basic understanding of profit and loss management
• Ability to interpret data and market information
• Good computer skills in MS Office
• Well versed with workplace health and safety protocols
• Familiar with relevant tools and equipment
• Ability to interpret product labels accurately
• Great organization, problem-solving, interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred

Nice to Have

• Proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin)
• 1 year of supervisory experience
• Keen interest and knowledge in merchandise management and implementation, including inventory control and promotional strategies
