Assistant Bakery Department Head

About This Role

The Assistant Bakery Department Head supports the Bakery Department Head in the daily operations of the department, ensuring quality products and excellent customer service. This role involves supervising staff, managing inventory, and maintaining departmental standards.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and ensure product quality, providing good customer service
• Provide hands-on support and assistance to the Department Head in managing department performance and goals
• Manage and supervise daily operations and staff performance
• Provide coaching, on-the-job training, and guidance to department staff
• Supervise Bakery Service Assistants, ensuring fair work distribution and execution of daily checklists
• Promote teamwork and create an inclusive working environment
• Manage and control product inventory in freezer and cooler
• Set up and manage product displays for special events and holidays
• Conduct quality and inventory control, ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, equipment maintenance, and workplace safety
• Oversee product quality, food safety, freshness, and ensure FIFO is practiced
• Maintain and update UPC pricing, verify and ensure proper product labeling
• Ensure bread, cake, and other pastry products are properly packaged and displayed
• Lead by example by performing all hands-on duties required in the Bakery Department

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Good computer skills in MS Office
• Familiar with workplace health and safety protocols
• Keen interest and knowledge in merchandise management and implementation, including inventory control and promotional strategies
• Familiar with relevant tools and equipment, able to interpret product labels accurately

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred

Nice to Have

• Proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin)
• At least 1 year of supervisory experience
• Basic understanding of profit and loss management, ability to interpret data and market information
