About This Role

The Appointment Clerk at Kaiser Permanente's DI Call Center monitors requisitions, schedules diagnostic imaging procedures, verifies insurance, and explains copay information to patients. This role is crucial for ensuring efficient patient flow and communication within the Diagnostic Imaging department.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule all Diagnostic Imaging services via incoming and outgoing telephone calls with a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Determine the status and nature of scans, recognize special circumstances, and inform patients of appointment times.
  • Verify insurance coverage, explain costs for services, and answer questions regarding scheduling and exam preparations.
  • Obtain, document, and correlate clinical patient history, transcribing physician orders into the Radiology Information System.
  • Review written instructions with patients on pre-examination preparations and arrange anesthesia support for pediatric cases as needed.

Requirements

  • One (1) year clerical experience in healthcare facility.
  • Two (2) years customer service experience.
  • Type 40 wpm.
  • Computer experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, adaptability, detail oriented, multi-tasking, prioritization, interpersonal relations, oral communication, written communication, teamwork, problem solving, systems thinking.
  • Demonstrated knowledgge of and skill in Microsoft Office, and databae PC applications.
  • Talking to patients, co-workers (internal and external), and vendors over the phone.
  • Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration and alertnes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.

Nice to Have

  • Medical Assistant.
  • Experience in Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Experience in a call center.
  • Post high school course work in Medical Terminology.
  • Post high school course work in Anatomy
