This role supports the Anesthesiology department by assisting Anesthesiologists with the administration and monitoring of anesthesia in various settings. This position is a member of the perioperative care support team focused on minimizing patient pain during procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, maintenance, and setup of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia care
- Set-up and operate anesthesia equipment including fluid warmers, warm-air blankets, and rapid infuser devices
- Set up supplies and assist in the placement of arterial lines, central lines, epidural catheters, and airway devices
- Set up supplies and devices for Cardiac and Vascular cases and assist with their placement
- Assist with the anesthetic induction of patients regardless of age, at the request of anesthesia staff
- Obtain blood samples and perform laboratory tests on these samples; perform QC checks on assigned testing devices
- Assist anesthesia staff in the transportation of critically ill patients to and from the operating room and other anesthetizing locations
- Keep assigned workroom area neat and orderly, stocking supplies as they arrive
- Stock anesthesia carts throughout the shift, ensuring cart availability
- Troubleshoot anesthesia equipment following training, perform diagnostic tests, and assist in evaluating new equipment
Requirements
- High school graduate
- Strong team player and supporter
- Highly reliable, punctual attendance
- Effective communication skills
- Adept at conflict resolution
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members in a flexible cooperative manner in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while paying close attention to detail
- Ability to engage in extended walking, standing, lifting/positioning supplies and equipment of up to 50 lbs, and assisting with pediatric and adult patients
Qualifications
- High school graduate
- Motivated to be trained for direct patient care support work; 1+ year direct or indirect healthcare experience desired; 1+ year Anesthesia Technician experience desired
Nice to Have
- One (1) year or more experience as an Anesthesia Technician
- Science based college coursework
- One (1) year or more direct or indirect health care experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within three (3) months of hire
(Required)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) obtain within six (6) months of hire
(Required)
