About This Role

The Advisory Services Manager supports the implementation and modernization programs for payer systems and applications within Optum's Advisory consulting practice. This role involves project and program management, problem diagnosis, solution formulation, and stakeholder consensus building for client engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects, programs, and workstreams by creating and maintaining key consulting engagement items (project plan, work breakdown structure, IRAADQ log, budget tracking, etc.)
  • Apply deductive and critical thinking to accurately diagnose client issues and formulate solution options with cost/benefit analysis
  • Build consensus among team members and client stakeholders for successful implementation of identified solutions
  • Create and document approaches and plans for work activities and deliverables
  • Plan, orchestrate, and lead consulting engagement meetings (requirement discovery sessions, workstream meetings, problem-solving sessions, client presentations)
  • Establish optimal communication cadence with stakeholders and lead business-acumen discussions in project meetings
  • Contribute to practice innovations such as enhanced service offerings, playbook development, process improvement, thought leadership, mentoring, and business development
  • Achieve annual MBOs, including utilization, role competency, innovation, and operational goals
  • Demonstrate relationship management skills and handle challenging interpersonal situations
  • Ensure client satisfaction through high-quality service delivery

Requirements

  • 5+ years of external client facing consulting experience
  • 5+ years of healthcare Payer operations and/or technology experience in claims, enrollment/eligibility, billing, or provider domains
  • 5+ years experience documenting consulting deliverables (requirements, features, user stories, test cases, technical specifications/mapping documents)
  • 3+ years experience creating process flow diagrams
  • Experience working with at least one core administration system (Facets, QNXT, Health Rules Payer, Tapestry)
  • Experience in both participating in and leading a workstream for a payer project
  • Experience working on at least one agile project as a Product Owner or comparable role
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
  • Willingness to travel domestically, up to 25%

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of external client-facing consulting experience; 5+ years of healthcare Payer operations and/or technology experience; 5+ years experience documenting consulting deliverables; 3+ years experience creating process flow diagrams

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on at least one end-to-end payer systems and application implementation or migration project
  • Hands-on experience working with Facets
  • Experience with MS Project, Smartsheet, Service Now, Jira, Rally
  • Experience working on a cloud migration project
