The Advanced Surgical Consultant will educate and support cardiac surgery and heart failure programs on the proper use of Impella devices, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through direct assistance and training. This role focuses on expanding the adoption of life-saving heart recovery solutions for patients.
Responsibilities
- Train, educate, and support combined CT/Heart Failure programs on the proper use of the Impella
- Ensure optimal patient outcomes through full customer immersion and surgical support within 5.5 sites
- Provide device expertise and support on Impella to assist with the adoption of the full portfolio
- Ensure surgical implant and unit support readiness including training and education at existing sites
- Collaborate internally with Surgical Leadership, Training, Engineering, Marketing, Professional Education, Clinical, and R&D teams
- Participate in On Call support rotation
- Maintain contact with all customers to evaluate clinical and educational needs
- Perform device training on full Impella Device line-up
- Provide advanced acumen on durable, acute, and hemodynamic medical device landscape and best practices
- Cultivate close relationships with strategic business partners and key opinion leaders
Requirements
- If Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, 5+ years of direct patient care in cardiac transplant, ECMO or LVAD center CVICU or direct (at the table) experience in CVOR
- If advanced degree, 3+ years of direct patient support in a cardiac transplant, ECMO or LVAD center CVICU or CVOR
- Direct patient management experience (not including experience as an Abiomed field clinical) in Cardiothoracic ICU caring for post-op tMCS (Impella, CentriMag, ECMO) or Durable MCS (HeartMate, HeartWare, Berlin Heart) or direct CVOR assistance
- Confidence, expertise and familiarity of cardiac surgery and OR protocol
- Willingness to travel
- Availability to take call for emergent patient care
- Ability to work in a team environment
- A valid driver's license issued in the United States
- Conduct duties and responsibilities in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations governing the medical device industry
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree or advanced degree
- If BSN, 5+ years of direct patient care in cardiac transplant, ECMO, or LVAD CVICU or direct CVOR experience; If advanced degree, 3+ years in similar roles. Direct patient management experience in Cardiothoracic ICU caring for post-op tMCS or Durable MCS, or direct experience assisting in CVOR.
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree: Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Surgical Physician’s Assistant (PA), Critical Care Physician’s Assistant (PA) or Perfusionist licensure
- Direct (at the table) experience in Cardiac Surgery/Perfusion, 5+ years preferred
- Hands on Impella support experience strongly preferred
- ECMO patient care experience
- Experience delivering clinical demonstrations and successful trainings
- Ability to advance sales process with customers
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to advocate with physicians
