The Neonatal Advanced Practice Professional will deliver direct patient care to newborns and infants within the Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital (VVWH) Birthing Center and the Brandon NICU. This role focuses on providing high-quality, patient and family-centered care, fostering multidisciplinary communication, and enhancing educational opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate care of acutely ill and convalescing neonates under physician supervision
- Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks for neonates in the NICU
- Direct, coordinate, and participate in neonatal transports (ground and air)
- Initiate medical treatment in collaboration with the supervising physician to stabilize neonates during transport
- Complete detailed histories and physicals and present data to medical staff
- Collect and interpret diagnostic test reports
- Order tests and prescribe medications
- Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures
- Attend high-risk deliveries and lead neonatal resuscitation activities
- Provide prenatal consult services for mothers on high-risk medications and consult with other newborn care providers
Requirements
- Current licensure as an RN and NP specialty certification in Michigan OR PA license in Michigan
- Current specialty certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner OR NCCPA certification
- Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
- AHA approved BLS
- Current DEA license
- Minimum 3 years of patient care experience with critically ill neonates or infants in critical care inpatient settings
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program OR Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by ARC-PA
- Minimum of three (3) years of patient care experience in the care of critically ill neonates or infants in critical care inpatient settings
Nice to Have
- One (1) year of clinical practice experience as an APP in a NICU
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to function independently while ensuring medical team collaboration
- High level of critical thinking
- Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment
- Motivation to learn and participate in patient care improvement activities
- Professional appearance and demeanor, excellent customer service skills
- Experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities for acute and chronically ill neonates
