The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) will provide comprehensive clinical and medical care for neurology and memory health program patients, including assessments, treatment planning, and education. This role involves collaboration with clinical teams, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and participating in the education of medical staff and students.
Responsibilities
- Manage comprehensive and individualized care for patients and their families in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Complete daily rounds, consults, and pre-procedure evaluations.
- Conduct integrated assessments, considering biological, social, and psychological factors.
- Order additional tests or consults in collaboration with faculty or established guidelines.
- Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests.
- Consult and communicate with hospital/clinic staff regarding abnormal findings.
- Perform succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in medical records.
- Facilitate patient discharge and/or follow-up care.
- Perform necessary procedures following established clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Develop comprehensive individualized care plans including teaching, discharge planning, and referrals.
- Participate in physician and interdisciplinary team rounds.
- Identify unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention.
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate effective emergency care.
- Evaluate and respond to patients and coordinate student medical/nursing education.
- Utilize teaching/learning theory in providing education to staff, students, patients, and families.
- Serve as a resource person for staff and student learners.
- Provide leadership in developing and implementing changes in practice.
- Participate in clinical trials and research studies with the Principal Investigator.
Requirements
- Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant
- National Certification Corporation (NCC) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) certification (for NP) OR Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (for PA)
- Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in WV (for NP) OR licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine (for PA)
- American Heart Association BLS Certification
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree as Physician Assistant; Bachelor's Degree as Physician Assistant
- Eligible new graduates will be considered.
Nice to Have
- Neonatal ICU, acute care or pediatric experience (for APP)
- NNP or ACPNP certification (for NP)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant
- Fellowship in Neonatal Medicine
- Pediatric CAQ
- Memory disorder, neurology and/or acute care experience (for Neurology APP)
- AGACNP, CNS or FNP (for NP, Neurology)
- Masters level education as Medical/Surgical (as applicable) Physician Assistant (for PA, Neurology)
