This role manages patient admission and discharge processes at North Mississippi Health Services, serving as a welcoming representative, collecting patient information and payments, and supporting scheduling. The specialist ensures efficient patient flow and a high-quality patient care experience through excellent communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients in a positive, helpful, and courteous manner
- Answer and direct calls to appropriate personnel; take messages as needed
- Direct visitors and physician office patients to correct locations
- Verify/update personal information and demographic details, assist with appointment information
- Review and explain paperwork such as privacy acknowledgement, general consent forms, financial responsibility, and Medicare questionnaires
- Obtain and scan insurance card(s) into applicable database
- Verify insurance eligibility/benefits information and update in Registration systems
- Collect and witness required signatures on patient paperwork
- Receive/post payments on accounts (i.e., co-payment, past due balances) and provide receipts
- Process, maintain, update, and scan patient records in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- 1-3 years of work experience
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities
- Working knowledge of personal computer (PC) and various software applications/programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and skills to provide service to customer population including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to work well within a team-oriented structure
- Must serve as a patient advocate
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- 1-3 years of work experience
Nice to Have
- Associate's Degree in Business or related field
