Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician - Dialysis

About This Role

Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients as part of a hemodialysis healthcare team, following FMCNA policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsibilities include patient care, equipment setup, vital signs monitoring, and documentation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under the direct visual supervision of a Registered Nurse (FMCNA RN)
• Report and document all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN
• Promote and assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment
• Set up and prime equipment for renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement and peritoneal dialysis therapies) with documented competency and proficiency
• Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings to FMCNA RN
• Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight, reporting unusual findings to FMCNA RN
• Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties or unusual findings to FMCNA RN
• Calculate and enter individual patients’ dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, Sodium (Na) modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed
• Initiate renal replacement treatment according to prescribed orders
• Collect and label specimens, ensuring timely delivery to laboratory per facility policy

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• 1-2 years related experience
• Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification

• High School Diploma required
• 1 – 2 years’ related experience
