Academic Instructor

About This Role

The Academic Instructor provides education in basic subjects to inmates/students, helping them develop essential skills for responsible citizenship. This role involves maintaining a positive, secure learning environment and developing appropriate lesson plans.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in basic education subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing, and language arts
• Help inmates/students learn skills that contribute to their development as mature, responsible citizens
• Maintain a positive learning environment
• Adopt secure classroom management practices
• Develop level-appropriate lesson plans
• Prepare course objectives following curriculum standards and applicable requirements by contract
• Plan a program of study, lesson plans, assignments, and tests under general supervision
• Provide instruction using course outline, handouts and texts, audiovisual aids, and other materials
• Administer tests to evaluate students' progress and competency with subject matter
• Assist students with individualized instruction as needed

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Experience in Microsoft Office applications
• A valid driver's license
• Minimum age of 21

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

Nice to Have

• A teaching license
• Three years of classroom instruction experience
